Horak Insurance
We’ve continued to serve our families, friends, and community for over 90 years as an independant agency.
Horak Insurance was started in 1928 by the late Paul R. Horak on the square in Washington, Iowa. He suffered from polio and spent much of his time driving from farm to farm selling insurance.
The agency moved to its present location in Washington in the 1950’s and continued to grow through the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s under Paul’s sons Richard and Tom Horak and the partnership of Cindy Lebsack.
The agency was expanded to Columbus Junction in 1992 with the acquisition of the Howell Insurance Agency. The purchase of Sigourney Insurance Services in 1995 and the L E Williamson Agency in 1996 expanded our business to the Sigourney area. We also purchased Sellers Insurance in 2010 and Nielsen Insurance Group dba, Mcfarland Insurance and Lowe Insurance in 2017, and in 2020 we purchased Crull Insurance in Washington.
The agency principals are now Luke and Paul Horak. We have three offices, 14 full time and two part time employees and write business in eight mid-western states as well as Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
